Uterus surgery
Hysterectomy (removal of uterus)
Uterus may be removed for different reasons (heavy bleeding, fibroids, cancer, endometriosis, adenomyosis, uterine prolaps). Hysterectomy performs by vaginal, laparoscopic and abdominal route. Some studies demonstrated that removal of fallopian tubes at the time of hysterectomy reduces the risk for ovarian cancer.
Vaginal hysterectomy
Vaginal hysterectomy is surgical procedure when uterus removes through vagina. The surgery takes about 45 -60 minutes and the patient leaves the hospital usually day after the surgery.
Laparoscopic hysterectomy
Laparoscopic hysterectomy performs through small abdominal incisions by long instruments placed throught incisions. Uterus removes through incision in vagina. The surgery takes about 60 minutes and the patient leaves the hospital usually the day after the surgery.
Abdominal or open hysterectomy
Abdominal or open hysterectomy is treatment for large uterus and some cancer diseases. The surgerica procedures takes about 45-90 minutes and hospital stay is 1-4 days. Reconvalescence is longer than after vaginal and laparoscopic hysterectomy.
Myomectomy (fibroid removal)
Myomectomy performs for symptomatic myoma (fibroids) in women in reproductive age. The surgery may be done by laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and through abdominal incision. Hospital stay is some hours after hysteroscopic surgery, one day after laparoscopy and one to four days after abdominal myomectomy.
Polypectomy or polyp removal
Polypectomy or polyp removal is performed by hysteroscopy in local anesthesia when polyp is located in the uterine cavity or by simple ”cut” when polyp arise from uterine cervix.
Septum resection
Septum resection performs by hysteroscopy in local or general anesthesia as day surgery.
Conisation of the cervix
