In vitro fertilization (IVF)
In vitro fertilization (IVF)
There are more than 10 millions children worldwide born after IVF (test tube baby). The ovaries are stimulatetd by pituitary gland hormones to obtain more matured eggs. Eggs are then aspirated from the ovarian follicles under the ultrasound control and fertilized in the laboratory by partner’s or donor’s spermatozoa. A fertilized egg (embryo) is then placed in the woman’s womb. The surpluse embryos with good quality are frozen for later use. There are two metods for fertilization in the IVF laboratory: conventional IVF and intracytoplasmatic microinjection (ICSI). The later methode is developed for male factor infertility.
