Ovulation stimulation

Ovulation stimulation is most often done in patients with polycystic ovaries (PCOS) and irregular periods, provided that the partner's semen analysis is normal. The goal of stimulation is to obtain one mature egg cell and for the couple to try to achieve pregnancy naturally. Ovaries are stimulated with pills or injections with a low dose of hormones.

Medicines for stimulation mimic natural hormones - follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) - in order to cause ovulation. Taken orally, these drugs promote ovulation by influencing the pituitary gland to produce more FSH and LH, which causes the follicle to grow with the egg.

In the case of administration of these drugs in the form of injections, the ovaries are directly stimulated in order to produce more egg cells. In addition to this, certain injections affect the maturation of egg cells and their release during ovulation. With such injections, the risk of multiple complications is higher.

The use of these drugs carries with it certain risks such as multiple pregnancies, ovarian hyperstimulation, etc. That is why prior consultation with a doctor is mandatory regarding the selection of treatment and the prescription of an adequate dose and method of administration of the appropriate medicine.
